Gomorrah, by italian journalist Roberto Saviano, is the latest book i've finished reading.
The book is an accurate account of the napolitan mafia system and the life within it.
I got the book due to the hype surrounding the movie and i was not dissapointed at all.
In a kind of "journalistic" way, the book narrates how the drug business, construction, toxic waste and the true high-fashion sweatshops operate, and how this has been changing the Naples area landscape for decades, withouth and end in sight.
For me, a true enthusiast of the whole "Mafia" subject, it came as a new account and a different perpective from the much more "famous" Cosa Nostra, the sicilian mafia. We can no see and understand the differences between both organised crime groups, and the similarities between both of them either.
I already have the movie but i haven't watched it yet, but i'm pretty sure it won't be as good as the book that gave birth to it.
Oh, and since the author is now under police protection and working with the police anti-mafia office after receiving numerous death threats, you can't question how true and honest he is on what he writes about.
Recommended.
